How to age with vitality
My brother and I recently visited our Mom’s cousin to celebrate her 99th birthday.
Like our Mom was, she’s a ray of sunshine.
She delights in spreading joy, uplifting, and encouraging people.
We need more Jennies in the world.
She quietly said she’s ready to go to heaven.
She misses her husband.
She lives in assisted living and is no longer able to walk.
It got me thinking that in our culture, aging comes with a story.
I’ll slow down.
My body will slowly decline.
I’ll need more care.
You see it in parents, relatives, and people around you.
So it starts to feel inevitable.
I have a new pilates client who is 70.
She hasn’t exercised in years.
It’s caught up to her.
I’ve had to go back to my training, which had a lot of rehabilitation exercises, in order to work with her and not hurt her.
She’s so deconditioned that I’m having to do the most simple basic exercises.
She struggles to lift two-pound weights.
What this has shown me is that aging is shaped by thousands of micro-decisions made decades before you turn 70.
She almost never takes walks.
Hasn’t ever really exercised in her adult life.
She eats a lot of sugary foods.
Her identity and thoughts are that she’s old, and this is just the way it is.
I was listening to a podcast where a financial advisor laid out all the statistics on the likelihood of needing care as you age.
For a 65-year-old today, there’s about a 70% chance you’ll need some form of long-term care.
And the costs can be staggering, costing tens of thousands, sometimes over $100,000 per year.
And only 7% of people have a plan for those costs.
What was missing from the conversation is that decline doesn’t have to be inevitable.
You can age with strength, energy, and independence.
Your microhabits today will create a life of either vitality or decline.
You can be the 80 year old who:
- feels strong in your body
- stays active in your life and hobbies
- has energy for your day
Imagine your life when:
- You can travel without your body limiting you
- You’re active with your family and friends
- You don’t need help with basic daily tasks like showering and dressing
- Your mind stays engaged
- Your health supports your life instead of shrinking it
This is the part most people overlook:
How you eat and support your body today directly shapes that future.
Not in a dramatic, overnight way.
But in the small, consistent inputs that determine your energy, your strength, your metabolism, and your resilience.
This is where your future is built.
While the wellness space wants to convince you that you need more supplements, peptides, HRT, fitness trackers, complicated diets, intermittent fasting, and restricting certain food groups in order to age well, it’s just not true.
In 12 weeks with me, I have a simple, realistic way to:
- support your energy
- build strength
- stabilize blood sugar
- create a way of eating that actually works in your life
You don’t need to accept the version of aging you’ve been shown.
You can start supporting your body now.
And when you do, you change the trajectory of your future.
You maintain your independence, and you spend your money on travel and hobbies, and not on assisted living.
If you’re ready to feel better in your body and build a future where your health supports your life, I can help you.
